John Ray is one of the best young luthiers working in Granada, Spain. His guitars are very much in the "Granada" style - small-bodied, lightweight, easy to play and very responsive with many nuances and colors of sound. His instruments have been in demand in Japan and Europe, so Guitar Salon International is proud to be exclusively representing his instruments here in the USA.
This classical model has a spruce top with Indian rosewood for the back and sides. The entire guitar is French polished. For a small bodied instrument, the guitar has suprising volume and a beautiful, lyrical tone. The low weight helps to create a very quick responding instrument, much like a Marin or even a Miguel Rodriguez. The spruce top is brighter and more focused than the cedar, although both retain a light, playful personality. Aesthetically, the guitar has an elegant simplicity which is very tasteful and refined - reminiscent of some of the most charming second epoch guitars of Torres.
