EMI Classics Asia has announced a three-disc contract with guitarist Xuefei Yang, who recently made her Wigmore Hall debut and at the Laeiszhalle in Hamburg. 'It's very exciting to have this chance,' she observes, adding that plans for the first album are already in train. 'I want it to be approachable, to introduce new listeners to the instrument. It will probably have a world theme, with music from many different countries.' Yang is preparing to go into the studio in December, taking the experience of two previous discs with her. 'I enjoy recording in the studio. The guitar is an intimate instrument and suits the recording studio very well. It almost feels like you’re playing to yourself for pleasure. I like live performance and recording equally well.'
'I am very impressed with Fei's superb talents - her world-class skills and Asian background are exactly what EMI Classics Asia is looking for. Besides classical repertoire, Fei plays extremely well on cross-over pieces which will be appealing to the mass market. We are now working on the first album which will sure be a joy to the Asian market as well as international audience,' says Desmond Lee, Executive Vice President, EMI Classics Asia.
