Florante Aguilar came to New York from the Philippines on a scholarship to study at the Manhattan School of Music with Grammy Award winner Sharon Isbin. He was later accepted as a private student of Benjamin Verdery.
He received his first formal training at the University of the Philippines' College of Music where he obtained a Degree in Performance. He later went on a six-and-a-half month tour performing in major cities in Italy, Germany, England, Scotland, Denmark, Sweden, Switzerland, Hong Kong and the U.S.
He became a member of the esteemed Buffalo Guitar Quartet in 1989. The quartet toured and conducted residencies throughout the United States and recorded an album entitled New Music for Four Guitars (New World 384-2) to wide critical acclaim. He has also appeared on numerous television and radio shows. Florante is also a member of the Barbary Coast Guitar Duo with Michael Walsh.
Florante received his Bachelor of Music degree from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music in 1996 under the tutelage of David Tanenbaum.
